Canning and Preserving your Harvest for Beginners – August 18th
Join Angela from Someday Farm at the Dorset Library on Friday August 18th at 5:30 pm and find out what to do with your garden bounty.  Angela will present tips and techniques for beginning canners.  The focus will be on water bath canning of acidic vegetables such as tomatoes and pickles and jams.  If you’ve always wanted to “put up” vegetables on a small scale, but have been afraid to, this workshop is for you!  We will also touch on other methods of preservation such as freezing and drying. Bring your favorite canning recipe to share and browse our display of relevant books.  Light refreshments will be served.

Hansel and Gretel – August 25th -5-7pm

Join us at the Dorset Library on Friday, August 25th from 5-7pm for a visit to the gingerbread cottage in the woods!  All ages welcome, although most activities will be suitable up to 12 years. The witch will be there to lure you into the candy covered gingerbread cottage.  Once inside, you may get locked up in the cage!  Or take a trip through the glowing oven (and then escape on the slide).  You may pick a treasure from the treasure chest and decorate your own gingerbread cookie!  Design your own paper bag gingerbread house and help build a real gingerbread house that will be displayed at the library!  Take a break from all the fun to hear a reading of Hansel and Gretel.  Hope to see you!

Underwater and Wildlife Photography – August 31 5:30pm

Join us at the Dorset Library on Thursday August 31 at 5:30 pm to hear Jack Tse’s underwater and wildlife photography presentation. The evening will consist of two parts, the first is underwater photography and is based on a collection from diving trips from the Caribbean to the Indo-Pacific.  The subject matters are underwater creatures ranging from small critters to large pelagic fish as well as landscapes and corals.  The stories behind each photo will be discussed along with some of the contemporary environmental and ecological issues.  Basic underwater photography techniques will be discussed.  The second part of the presentation focuses on wildlife photography and trips to African Serengeti National Park. The photographs will highlight the trip and the incredible wildlife. Animal behaviors as well as environmental impacts to the National Park will be discussed.

There will be a reception with light refreshments following the presentation.
